A Year End Music Review Playlist

Source: FreePik

Though this year has felt more akin to doom and gloom, music has been a bright spot through the turbulence. The musical releases of the year have given us a brief reprieve from the stressors of our ever-changing reality and have allowed us a moment to immerse ourselves in another experience, if only temporarily.

While I compiled this list, it felt so strange to hear certain songs again and remember where I was emotionally at certain points of this year. Like the optimism I felt for 2020 when “Life is Good” by Future and Drake was released in January, and in hindsight, how naive I was to the way this year would unfold. Or the comfort that Kehlani’s album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t brought me in May, when the anxiety from the realization that we were in the full swing of a pandemic set in. Music has played such an important role in how I’ve coped with this year.

So as we come to the close of 2020, with only one month left (yes, you read that right), it’s only appropriate that I provide you all with a playlist of some of the best songs of the year. Songs that have uplifted me, put me in my feelings, made me dance and sing at the top of my lungs.

Here is my “Year End Review” playlist.
